What are some must-have albums for my iPod?

I've been told I have "bad taste" in music because I listen to mainly the latest rnb and hip-hop stuff. I know it shouldn't matter, but are there any indie-rock / alternative bands I should have on my iPod?

That's my favorite type of music..

So to start you definitely need to have some old-school Journey, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi!

Next, you might want some of the best rock bands, like Three Days Grace, Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, The Academy Is..., Cobra Starship, 3 Doors Down, The Almost, Augustana, Coheed & Cambria, The Killers, +44, Tom Petty, and We the Kings.

    Hope this helps you!

Well, looking at your taste, you might like Michael Jackson's Thriller... But if you want to enter the rock world, I can recommend you:

Nevermind - Nirvana (a must have)

Mothership - Led Zeppelin (a compilation of their biggest hits)

All the Right Reasons - Nickelback (I know it's mainstream but you may want a smoother transition from hiphop to rock...

The Beatles #1 - The Beatles

    Viva la Vida - Coldplay

    Hotel California - The Eagles

Appetite for Destruction - Guns N' Roses

    Greatest Hits - Journey

    Black Album - Metallica

    Dark Passion Play - Nightwish

    Hits - Phil Collins

    The Bends - Radiohead

some songs from Run-DMC (Walk This Way, Raising Hell, Rockbox)

    Ultimate Santana - Santana

    Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park

You'll probably like one of those...

you are spoilt for choice!!!here is a list of things on my ipod:

beastie boys, blur, get cape wear cape fly, belle and sebastian, elbow, hot chip, ting tings, vampire weekend,

i could go on but i won't :) but like the previous dude said, if you go on last.fm then when you are checking out a band it gives you a list of other similar artists too, so youl be able to browse lots of different sounds and bands. there is such a vast difference in all the bands listed at indie tho that it is worth listening to a few before giving up :)
