First of all congrats on you going back to school!! I am a mother of 4 as well and I too go back to school in September. Since it would be the first day of school for your kids, they wouldn't need much but the basic pen, pencil & paper to write on also have them carry a binder because the teachers are going to hand them syllabuses for each class all day and it should explain what they need for class. You don't want to buy things and your children end up not needing them. That is what happen to myself, so I sent them with the basic things. But if you want to check to see what they might need, go to www.officedepot.com, click on Office Supplies, click on School Supplies, scroll down to the bottom, under Buyers Guides select Quick Shop for School Supplies by Grade, then select the grade. They may even have one for college level.

Also with the computer, you would really need to purchase a good one or what I do is take them to the library to type up their assignments as well. You are correct, when I went to school we had to either print or handwrite assignments but now, they want the kids to type either using single or double space.

So please just hang in there with your studies and it will pay off at the end.

Good luck and God Bless You.

What you've already purchased is fine. If the teachers want something specific for a class, they'll let the students know and you can buy it then. There's no point in buying a whole bunch of stuff that you don't even know will be used. Usually, the only thing that teachers expect to be typed are papers. Regular homework can be handwritten. If you need a computer for your classes, I would purchase one that she could use as well. You can set parental settings so that it restricts the sites she can see. Much like what they have for tv so kids can only watch shows with an appropriate rating. I would get a printer with the computer though, because as she goes further into school, more will be expected to be done electronically. The computer is also a good way to do research.
