21/F/AUS - depression & chronic pain
i went to see my psychologist for the second time yesterday. i told her that after the first visit i felt worse then i did when i seen her. she sed that wasnt good. i knew that it wasnt going to make me feel better after the first visit but i thought i would have felt abit better knowing that i had spoken to a professional and could be on the way to getting better. but i felt so down and awful for about a week until i seen her again. she suggested that i may need to try some antidepressants as i also suffer for chronic back pain which is something i have to try and manage for the rest of my life. she said that there is some tablets i can take which will take affect after about 10days and will help both with the pain and with the depression i have. she also sed it would have to be something that i would have to take for at least 6mths or more and after 3mths if im feeling good i couldnt stop them because i would go back to the way i was. im only 21 and i want to perhaps start a family one day in the next few years would that interfer with the baby? what side affects is there? i have an appointment with my gp in 2weeks i couldnt get in any earlier. my psychologist says she wants me to keep coming back to see her. i know have lots of questions to ask my gp i just want to get an idea and whether this is what i need. my bf has been great, he sed that he will surpot me in any way i choose or go which means alot. any feedback would be great if u want me to add anything just say and i`ll add it on. xx

55/M/AU - I address the subject of depression in section 2 of my website, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and suggest that you view page R first, then female depression, page V, and the rest of that section, as well as section 1.
It's quite normal to feel worse after a session with a therapist, because you are asked to re-focus on painful issues with all the associated negative emotions which are inextricably linked in the memories of most people.
I don't recommend antidepressants, particularly for young people, unless they are suicidal, or clinically depressed to the extent where they can't function, even at a basic level, such as eating, bathing, etc. The choice of treatments is yours to make, and I suggest that you try the alternative treatments shown, for at least 3 months, then review the situation.
The antidepressants will still be there if you need them, but they come with risks, and side effects, such as sexual dysfunction, and variations in weight are common. At the very least, check them out first in http://www.drugs.com/ and http://www.rxlist.com/ as well as reading the fine print on the label and/or enclosure.
Your current depression may predispose you to post natal depression, so view page Z.4 in section 2, and be on the lookout for signs in the days and weeks following the birth.

to read. An afterthought: there are forums on back pain in places like http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/ (for certain) & http://www.careplace.com/ Try asking some questions there, and here, in Science > Medicine. Have you attended a pain clinic? There are many treatments, such as professional hypnotherapy, acupuncture, and battery operated devices which you wear, which, by the use of small electrical currents through electrodes, interfere with pain messages to the brain

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info/ )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Hi There,
Looks like you are having a bad time but its great that you have someone who is helping you through this time your bf sounds a keeper to0.
I have had a medical condition for 13 years, it effects every part of my life and is hard to treat. My Drs suggested that I take Endep (amytryptaline), this drug works on the central nervous system and therefore helps with chronic pain. You could discuss with your Dr a dose that will suit you and you should just start with a small dose and gradually increase this way it will give your body time to adjust. I have been taking this drug for 9 years now and take 75mg every night. I sleep better and this helps me cope with the rest of my illness. Endep is very cheap, about $12 a box for a month's supply (compared to some others). There are side effects but like I said if you start out gradually they are minimal. There is a lot of info about Endep on the internet so check it out. I hope things work out for you :) Good Luck

I'm afraid for your back being that you are left in the shape you are at this point. You have muscles pulling tightly on the vertebrae that is going to eventually cause you disc problems if left like that. The muscles are the only things with enough force and holding long enough to cause the disc problems. To free up your back muscles and to get off the pills that aren't doing their job anyway you have to free up the muscles in your back. Once done the pressure will be off, the pain gone and your discs will live to serves you better and longer. Here's how to free up your back muscles: Back: (do from a sitting position) Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain thisrelaxedd.
