Can I cut my choc. chip cookie recipe in half or...
would I ruin it even though I would keep the same proportions?
So, instead of using 2 eggs, I would use 1, and instead of using 2 sticks of butter, I would use one, and instead of using 2 1/4 cups of flour, I would use 1 1/8, etc....
More questions: Same temp.? Crisco all-vegetable shortening or Crisco butter-flavored shortening?
I would like to cut the recipe in half, because I am making two difference recipes, and seeing which I like better.
Because I am using a recipe for fluffy choc. chip cookies, it calls for shortening. If I really care about my health, I wouldn't be eating them in the first place. So, I am making them the way they will turn out best. It's not like I eat them everyday!

For years I have cut my recipes down - from serving 4-6 to serving 2. By halving the cookie recipe - you do everything the same way as you would with the full recipe - but as the other answerer said - be sure to write the ingredients and halved quantities down so you can follow that instead of getting mixed up and adding the whole recipe amount part-way through - I've accidently done that a few times so now I always write it down first.
If you are cutting a cake recipe down, the time will be different in the smaller recipe but the oven temperature will remain the same.
And, FYI, if you halve the Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe on the back of the Nestles chocolate chip bag, it makes 19 cookies.
Enjoy!

Of course you can cut the recipe in half... the temperature and time wont need to be adjusted if you make them the same size as you usually do. I never use crisco, only butter. Trans fats are scary (I don't trust the trans fat free label either). If the crisco looks like that at room temp, it looks almost like that in your body at body temp! Yikes! Stick to butter and oils.

As long as you make sure and half everything in the recipe it should work just fine. One tip that I would recommend, is that you write out the halved recipe on a separate sheet of paper. A number of times, I have halved part of the recipe and then forgot to half the rest.

As long as the time and temperature is the same then the recipe will be fine if its cut in half.
