Is anyone aware of the treatment of Beijing residents prior to the Olympics?

I am just awazed at the lack of concern for the atrocities of this government. 1.5 million people have been evicted from their homes, with most receiving no compensation and some who protested being beaten and jailed. My goodness, China is the next super power. It's like putting a monster in charge. I am worried because it seems that there is not a lot of protest out there for this type of behavior.

Well, I am aware of it. But your information and others are NOT correct.

There is NO private ownership of the property in China. So, those people don't own it. So, the government have the right to take it. Those people are also offered relocations. But they refuse to leave the area. That is their own fault. It is like saying that people refuse to leave the public housing due to a change in location. That is their own fault. Protesting is legal in China. But illegal Protesting is NOT legal. That is why they get jailed.

I think ignorance is the BIGGEST MONSTER in the world.

    putting a monster in charge?

I'm sorry but there are alot of protests against China mostly from westerners and if you gather them up, you will see that most of them don't even care about Tibet or the conflict with Sudan etc. Most of the people who support Tibet are clueless about their culture. If Bono preached about giving aid to Africa, would you care? Many people will support anything with human rights written all over it.

China is not the next super power. China is so corrupt and the Chinese people will not tolerate it much longer.

China's economic success lies entirely on it's cheap labour and under educated population. Workers will not rise up and take over despite the communist propaganda. Those with power in China are liars, greedy and waste so much money while many Chinese are left begging in the streets, being spat upon and starving to death.

As China becomes more successful and progresses further, the government will lose it's grasp on the people. There are already obvious signs of this happening right now. China will crumble upon itself long before it becomes the next super power.

Well as unfortunate as the fate of the people of China is, we have some issues that need addressing here. Given America's past and present history regarding human and equal rights, we should be the last country to criticize another country's treatment of its people.

We haven't and still continue to treat people of color in this country really shoddy so lets take care of home and then try to help others.

About 20 people angry about being evicted from their homes in central Beijing demonstrated Monday not far from Tiananmen Square, saying the Olympics should not curb their legal rights.

I heard the same thing about the poorer suburbs coming up to Atlanta and Sydney if Brazil get them it will be the same so I don't think that's true.

No one cares as long as they can get some nonsense stuff cheap at Walmart which has ruined small towns in this country.
