Was this an attempt to preempt NATO membership for Georgia in a time when the US would be loathe to respond (lame duck status for the president and massive presence in Iraq) or is there a longer-term strategic goal at play here?

That bipolar stuff that's like getting to be an epidemic anymore, its almost as bad as diabetes and asthma. I know it makes people do weird stuff, maybe starting war is a symptom of it, I don't know.

I think you give Putin and Co. too much credit, you have to understand he is smarter than Bush.....then again most rocks are smarter than Bush. Russia has stepped in it, just like Chimpy Mcflightsuit has in Iraq.
