Don't believe the hype! The media in their effort to manufacture news and sell newspapers/magazines have made China into this luminous threat. And, many people talke about future wars between the United States and China. The reality is quite different.
First it is important to separte the government and the people. They are two radically different entities. Individually, the Chinese shares many characteristics with the United States. They are very capitalistic, meaning they one should get the rewards for their individual hard work. This a very strong belief and why they are so industrial. This is why China was able to adapt to capitalism so quickly and effortlessly. Countries like Russia continue to struggle, because they aren't philosphically capitalistic. In China, Communism was forced upon the entire country. It isn't necessarily what the general public believed.
Second, the Chinese people are mostly Buddhist. Which means they don't believe in violence. Doubt me? Think to your own experience with Asians in your personal life. Do they seem very violent to you? Not likely...
China will be a economic competitor for a long time to come, but we shouldn't be afraid. The Chinese work much longer hours and 4 times the population. Imagine the economic power of the United States if we had 1 billion people working 12 hour days. Second, China seems impressive because they work for cheap labor, but they can't stay cheap forever. Overtime, wages will increase and they'll lose that advantage.

I don't know, but they just "used" two little innocent girls for the Opening Ceremony, the put the "prettier" one out to lip sync, for the girl who actually sang, Ode to the Motherland, pretty sad if you ask me.

I think China is progressing in the right direction, although they have some serious human rights issues that need to be addressed
