Do dogs have a sense of time?
My wife & I put our 4 yr old female boxer in the kennel while we're at work, which we hate to do. But someone suggested to us the other day that dogs don't know the difference between 5 minutes & 5 hours. If this is true, maybe we're not the horrible dog parents we thought. What do you guys think?

i hate to tell you but dogs have an internal clock - they may not be able to tell time as time is a human invention not theirs, but they know when their regular meal times are coming up, they know when their regular walk time is coming up, they get into patterns and can judge how long until another regular event occurs. You dog will know when she put in that kennel regularly how long it will be before she is let out. On the upside if you are giving her lots of toys and things she should know she has to entertain herself ;) if the neighbours haven't complained about her crying or anything i wouldn't feel too bad if you are spending quality time with her when you are home.

You aren't horrible dog parents, but yes, dogs do have a sense of time. My dogs know exactly when I get home because when I see my house from another street, they are waiting at the door. And my grandmas dog knows when her bed time is because she trys to lure my grandma to the bed room at around 9 each night. It's sort of funny really.

Yes, dogs to have a sense of time, but not quite like ours.
Don't worry about kenneling your dog, as long as he has access to water. Just make sure that he gets enough food and exercise when you are home.
