This is really easy.
You may want to try it...
Bread Fritters;
Go to the bakery section of the store where you normally buy bread.
Ask the baker for an "unbaked" loaf of bread.
He must put exactly the same amount of dough he would have used to bake a bread with in to a plastic bag for you, and it would cost no more than a loaf of bread.
Take that home and in a pot warm some cooking oil to about half the depth of the pot. (Smaller pots take less oil than bigger ones do)...
The oil temperature should be medium hot. (About half the heat that the stove plate will go)
Now cut from the unbaked dough a slice about the size of your palm, and with a little water on your fingers (to prevent the dough from sticking to your hand), stretch out the dough in all directions until it is about the size of your whole hand including the fingers. That brings the cutting of dough to about twice the size it was when you cut it....
Now with care, drop the stretched out dough in to the hot oil.
It would rise almost instantly.
Fry it in the oil until it is golden brown all over, taking care to turn it over occasionally.
It would be puffy and crisp when done.
With a large ladle or sieve, scoop out the bread fritter and place on an absorbent kitchen towel to rid it of most of the oil still on it.
Repeat this process until all the dough is done.
These bread fritters are extremely filling, and can be cut open and filled with almost anything from grated cheese to mince to poloni or jam.
Try it, you will probably have some left over for two or three days, which your man can take to work if he likes....
Bread fritters can be frozen and warmed up again if you have made too much, but the dough cannot, so rather make the whole lot and freeze what is left over for another day.
Finger snack variety; By making the bread dough cutting about half the size when cutting off the raw dough from the batch, you can make smaller sized bread fritters and fill them with fancy foods like tuna mince or savory beef mine for buffet snack parties

It's not that hard to try and experiment with cooking. If you're afraid, watch some cooking shows first. To cut and peel, all you need is a knife and peeler. To boil, you put a pot of water on the stove and wait till steam starts coming out of the cover. Just some tips. The easiest thing to start out cooking with is: Ramen or eggs. Ramen as in not cup noodles, but the one in packets. And as for eggs, just heat up a pan with some oil and drop the egg (the yolk and white) in the pan to fry (don't forget to flip the egg when one side of the egg is done).
good luck :]

Buy cook books written for kids.
They usually have step by step photos of everything, and explain what other cook books assume you know.
Don't be embarrassed - everyone has to start some where. Lots of them have good, tasty healthy recipes.
Also, when you get to your new city, look up some beginners cooking classes, not only will it help you cook, but you might make some new friends. (Ones that know you are not a confident cook - so they will be happy to eat your experiments)
Good luck with the move, and happy cooking :)

OK. So you don't know how to cook...You know how you like your chicken breast grilled? The look it has? Well, get yourself a George Foreman grill, and cook it on there til it looks like you want it to...if you don't know, cut into it with a knife and see if it's still raw. You want to make spaghetti? just get a pound roll of ground beef, brown it over medium heat, add chopped onion and bell pepper, a lot of garlic salt, and boil some pasta until YOU think it's done, and pour meat sauce over noodles, and have spaghetti! Want grilled salmon? Just take a piece of raw salmon, put a little brown sugar and cayenne pepper on top, bake it in oven for 6 minutes, then broil for about 5 minutes, and you're good 2 go. Grilled cheese? just put butter or margarine on one side of 2 pieces bread, spray no stick spray in skillet, let it heat, put buttered side of bread down, then one or two pieces cheese, then other bread butter side UP, and flip over in about a minute. Medium high heat. adeniselane@yahoo.com if you need any other info?

The dummy books are always the best; so please don't take this wrong.
They have specialists in each field that write the books " " for dummies.
I would definitely check that out, since they write the books in a language that is easy to understand. Truthfully. I've used them for understanding Alzheimer's to Server Administration to learning Excel.
Great things.
I do agree also to start out with the simple things, such as salads, sandwiches, etc., which will be healthy and easy to keep the stuff in your kitchen in a pinch.
I was lucky - my mom taught me how to cook, but I taught myself how to bake. Good luck to you in your new life, and make it as simple and stress free as you can!

You can fry an egg. You can boil pasta. Eat a salads, good sandwiches, buy vegetables in small cans to avoid left overs. A small microwave oven will do wonders for your problem. For what it is worth I was almost 30 and was in the same position you are in today. I do not know how I made it. But somehow we do. Good luck!
