Does anyone else think that they're called 'Think Tanks' because of the hollow sound you get if you hit them?
Let's take in a few perceived facts or at least likelihoods.
Many of the Mill Towns/Cities in the North of England suffer high unemployment, and many new Industries and Services don't want to move there. {Look at the revolts in moving part of the BBC}.
Many of the Southern Cities {for example} Cambridge, Oxford and London have many new industries and few prospective candidates.
Many of these companies have been started as a result of academic work, often by the sort people who often run think tanks.
There is a huge problem maintaining or increasing amenities {water, power etc} in the South of England. There is also large overpopulation and infrastructure problems.
Their is a lack of airport capacity in the country, partially caused by building all the hubs within approx 50 miles of London and having poor infrastructures, meaning that many flights have to be made to London to join international flights.
Global warming indicates that in a few decades much of the South East of England {and particularly East Anglia} may be under water or {if the Gulf Stream moves} the country may be under an ice sheet in a few centuries.
Does anyone else think that the best, long term solution, is to make millions of peole move to the South of England to alleviate the current employment problems.

What has to be remembered is that the poorer areas are predominantly Labour voter areas. The reason most are deprived is that their parents, and grandparents before them, voted Labour and they would never dream of voting anything else.
As a result, when the Tories are in power, they know there's no chance of winning that seat. When Labour is in power they know they don't have to do anything to keep the seat.
A lot has been said over the decades about transport and infrastructure to these places. This should have been addressed after the war when they had the chance to start from scratch, like the rest of the Europe. No, as usual, the government wasted the money.
A friend of mine moved to Milton Keynes (50 miles from London) at the end of the 80's. Where he'd moved from the average house price was £30,000 and there it was £80,000 and rising as people from London were moving out due to high living costs, causing the likes of Milton Keynes' house prices to rocket.
They did have cheap "Shared Ownership" housing in which you bought say 30% and rented the other 70% but these were few and far between. When new properties came up for sale on the scheme there was a mass scramble. They were considered a safe bet because they'd put them on the market, say 2 years later, with a premium, i.e. a 30% share should have been say £25,000 and they were asking for £40,000. That meant you had to find the extra £15,000 on top of the 5% deposit.
The majority of conversations were about property prices. Typically "I bought my house for £25,000 and now it's worth £80,000....£55,000 profit. What they hadn't realised was they'd have to down-size to realise that "profit". How can you down-size from a bed-sit flat?

i love that they are arrogant enough to believe that London is the only place that can be successful. Try asking the software industry where is best..... it aint london. Also, if they tell everyone to move to london, what happens to the outlying areas?
I wouldnt move to london, as i dont want to commute for an hour each way from my poxy small but expensive studio apartment locate near an old powerstation that is apparently trendy.
They are morons....

I pay attention you, yet there is various super "under the radar" stuff. Bands like Apollo Sunshine and Okkervil River (as basically a pair of examples) are making relatively super song and have not been around too extraordinarily long. There are additionally bands like the Shins that have a minimum of slightly noteriaty that are very sturdy besides. i think of what has replaced better than something is the merchandising sphere. firms found out that jamming crap down your throat many times will make it conventional. in certainty, in case you tell human beings something is super a super portion of the inhabitants will purchase into it, and formulation regulations that equipment. you do no longer choose to project human beings and you do no longer choose to be risky and smash floor. it relatively is investment over artwork interior the mainstream, and that they are transforming into rather conservative, and with that for the duration of techniques who runs the radio? Who runs television? That, for my section is the substantial distinction. even in spite of the shown fact that, for comprehensive disclosure, i'm a sour, in the main indie rock fan. **************** Oh, Rckts beat me to it. this does not ask your self me. he's extremely clever. *************** howdy chum! it relatively is tax season so i've got been doing various that and that i've got been given pulled returned into the pointless, by no potential ending, infuriating argument interior the election section. i'm enormously over it in spite of the shown fact that. i think of I purely mandatory a reminder of ways nuts and completely no longer basic approximately ninety 8% of those everybody is. human beings have differing critiques and that's super, yet generally it relatively is basically a opposition to work out who may be the biggest a**hollow. no longer all and sundry, yet maximum folk (even me slightly i'm ashamed to assert). That place brings out the worst in various human beings.

It would make more sense to encourage just the opposite, and improve the infrastructure.
