If Reagan was President, Putin wouldn't have attempted such a bold move, because Ron would lower the boom on them economically.

He'd have gone on TV and forcefully denounced Russia. His Ambassador to the UN would have forcefully denounced Russia. He would have pressed, and very hard, our NATO allies to similarly come out and forcefully denounce Russia.

He would have pushed to allow UN peacekeepers to go to Georgia, and would have specifically sternly warned Putain (that's a deliberate misspelling) about interfering with the Georgian government or the pipeline.

Oh, and he would have found a way to get some quantities of anti-aircraft and anti-armor weapons into the hands of the Georgian military.

One thing I'm fairly certain of, he wouldn't have been suckered by Putin into thinking he's a nice guy.

Reagan would have seen this coming.

They invaded with two divisions. They simultaneously managed to blockade their ports, and launch air strikes deep into the country. No one that knows anything knows that this was planned weeks, maybe months in advance.

I can't say I know what Reagan would have done, but I am certain he would not have been taken by surprise.

"You have three weeks to clear out of Georgia or we will do to Moscow what Germany did to London, except that we will succeed."

He would fly to the capital of Georgia and declare "Mr. Medvedev, withdraw... these.... troops.... now!" Of course, no one would take Reagan's rhetoric seriously because they would just throw Iraq in his face. But then, this is assuming he wasn't impeached immediately after September 11, 2001, when the nation realizes we were attacked by the same 'freedom fighters' he helped train and arm in the 80's.

he would have armed Georgia, because enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Kind of like how we armed the Mujhadeen in afghanistan against Russia in the 80's and then they became al-qaeda and used our weapons to fight agains us.

He would have left it alone. Sad to say. But geography alone argues against getting directly involved. Too bad we didn't equip the Georgians with much heavier and better hardware and training!

He would secretly fund the Georgians by selling arms to Iran.

his quiet diplomacy and hard lines killed the USSR. Russia is not that big a deal.
