By being punished when I did something wrong and rewarded when I did it right. In other words when you are appropriate you get what you want, unless your parent/gaurdian has a good reason not to give it to you and get praised either way for being appropriate. You can even say thank you for bieng appropriate. If you do it wrong you dont get what you want and maybe get a time out or something. Just remember that time-outs are really time for kids to be sensory deprived. They dont get anything to play with, you dont talk to them or pay attention to them, they dont go in thier rooms unless their room is empty of toys and other things that could distract them. Its one of the nbest ways to get your child to do what you want them to. If they get up you bring them back and keep doing it until they sit for the amount of time you told them to. Its hard as a parent because its alot of work and patience but dont say something if your not going to follow through. It only works when you stick to what you said. If you dont stick to it they learn how to manipulate you. Thats what my mom always did with us and what I have done with some of the most difficult kids alive, no joke they are actually diagnosed that way. Always worked when I held my ground, kept my voice low, and expected goals that were age appropriate.

As a child I understood two ways to get what you want; ask for it or work for it or both. You soon understood what to ask for and what to go about getting for yourself. You also found out what you couldn't get immediately or couldn't get at all. These things taught me contentment and the early efforts to achieve things helped build my character.

I did 'the puppy face' and/or entreat my parents out loud till they are sooo sick and tired of me that they have no other choice but to buy me what i want. Now as a teenager I still have my ways (other now)

All I had to do was watch their faces, especially my mothers. She looked down at me like a beautiful angel.
