You sound as though you would absolutely love anything by John Irving. He's far and away my favourite writer.

You're getting a lot of good suggestions. I like your question though, so I'm going to throw out a few more. A Canticle for Leibowitz ~ Walter M. Miller The Handmaid's Tale (and others) ~ Margaret Atwood The Stars My Destination ~ Alfred Bester All the Kings Men ~ Robert Penn Warren The U.S.A. Trilogy ~ John Dos Passos Babbitt ~ Sinclair Lewis One Day In the Life of Ivan Denisovich ~ Alexander Solzhenitzyn Atlas Shrugged ~ Ayn Rand A Bonfire of the Vanities ~ Tom Wolfe Alas Babylon ~ Pat Frank Triumph ~ John Kenneth Galbraith The Mouse That Roared ~ Leonard Wibberley Another Roadside Attraction ~ Tom Robbins For Whom the Bell Tolls ~ Ernest Hemingway In Cold Blood ~ Truman Capote Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee ~ Dee Brown This may look like a really random list but it actually isn't. I think you'd find a lot here to interest you. Good luck with your search.

Does Adan V mean The House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer? It's SciFi, so not really "real life," but it's VERY good, and the main character definitely goes through some trying ordeals - prejudice, betrayal, people trying to kill him, those kind of things. It deals with some big issues, too. The books you said you like are all for adults, and this is YA, so you might not like it, but the only difference, when it comes to this particular book, is that there isn't swearing or dirty stuff and the book mostly focuses on the main character's adolescence, with some childhood and no adult years.

    Hi there,

To get Mario Forever for free you can click here on the link: http://bit.ly/1p0vEWJ

Mario Forever is the restructured edition of the traditional arcade game Super Mario Bros. The gameplay is much like the same with the original Super Mario, in which you have to defeat the boss and bring the princess from his dungeon castle. In the last part of the stage is an evil dragon who is responsible for kidnapping the princess.

I haven't read the books you have listed but you should get one of books from the "my story" series the are the diaries of people who have actually been through thing like world wars, earthquakes or Sport fights againsts countries.

My personal favorite "earthquake" I don't know by who but you could use the computer and search "my story, earthquakes" I am sure it will come up with something.

    Hope this info helps =)

I'll give another vote for John Irving. A Prayer for Owen Meany is my favorite by him. Definitely interesting story lines. If you like depression, most of his characters are psychologically damaged in some way or another.
