Chile trip advice requested?

I am planning a trip to Chile for Sept 2008. Where in Chile do you recommend I go? Thanks for any input.

Well, September is the National month in Chile, so where ever you go I can assure you it'll be fun.

Chile is very long, so you might want to chose an area, either the north (desert, beaches and good weather), the central area (wines, fruit and beaches), the south (volcanos, lakes and fishing) or the extreme south (Patagonia, glaciers and snow).

There is a great website supported by the governmet with all the information:

There is a very good guide at:

Although I am from the south and simply adore my lakes and Patagonia, the weather might not be very nice in September. If you can cope with the cold and rain, go south, to Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Chiloe island, Coyhaique, Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine. Some people cross the Andes to Argentine, specially the beautiful town of Bariloche.

Otherwise, Valparaiso is always popular with the turists.

    Cheers!

If you are heading down to Chile, I would highly recommend experiencing Torres Del Paine National Park. It is beyond beautiful. The land is a mix of staggering granite mountains, glaciers, deep blue lakes, and rolling fields. This 598,000 acre park showcases some of the most impressive peaks of the Andes mountains, with the most famous set being the Cordillera del Paine.
