Pericarditis and smoking?

I have been diagnosed with Pericarditis and was in the hospital for a bit. It seemed to get better and I was even off medication for about 6 days but then it flared up again. Now I am on medication again - Indomethacin. It has been a month and a half now since this started. How long will this stay. I do smoke about 5-6 cigs a day. Would this be worsening it?

In a preexisting Pericarditis, cigarette smoking can aggravate it, so quit it.

I had pericarditis 6 months ago and spent several days in the hospital. the cause was determined to be a virus (was out of it with a severe flu bug the week before). i smoked a pack a day up until that point. i knew that the smoking was not the reason for the pericarditis, but the lady in the bed next to me just had a stint put in and i didn't want to be her in 25 yrs. i quit smoking. smoking is bad for you no matter what, so quitting is a good idea and may alleviate your symptoms.

If you use a vaporizer, would that help? I went to see my dr today because I had some pseudo-serious chest pains after indulging in some herbs a couple nights ago. When I bent over (as to brush my teeth), the pain/pressure was much greater. I had to sleep sitting up to prevent more discomfort. I was diagnosed with pericarditis, and prescribed blood tests, a stress test, and Indocin and Coichine, which I'm not taking until I get the blood test and stress test results. (Sorry for multi-questions). Thanks for the answer to my orignal question and other advice..
