Why didn't Michael Phelps enter more swimming events so he could win more Gold Medals?

Because you are only allowed to enter 3 relays, and 5 individual events.

Sucks huh?

He wanted to do his best in his best events so he could win gold in all of his events. If he were to enter many more events then he probably would have become exhausted and not have been able to do as well. The fact that he was able to enter and win gold in 8 events is pretty incredible within itself. I believe there is also a limit as to how many events you can enter.

I was wondering that too, my theory is that he didn't enter the 50 meter free style because his style is not compatible with a flat out sprint and his style is more condusive to longer races.

Either the above or maybe he didn't qualify in those events or maybe it would have been too physically taxing to race in let's say 10 events, plus he probably wants to have some fun and not be 100% strictly business there in Beijing.

He entered on all of the events that he is good at. He didnt enter on other events becuase the events he swam at the olympics are his best and he is able to get gold on those. Other events if he entered, he may have not gotten gold.

There's a limit to how many events you can do. I believe its 5 individual events, and 3 relays. However, he probably wouldn't have tried even if it was allowed. To get to that elite level of fitness for all those unique events would have been next to impossible.

There is only gold medals for the olympics. He has 8 medals from his races so far and may be today he'll have 9 gold medals.

i think there is a limit. Plus, he couldn't have qualified for all of them!
