How do I make a Swedish meatball sauce?

I know I'll need canned tomatoes but what else should I add in?

Grease (all that is left in skillet from frying meatballs)

    1 tsp. flour

    1/2 tsp. sugar

    1 can tomato sauce

    1 can tomato paste

    Water (to thin sauce)

    1/2 tsp. oregano

    1/2 tsp. chili powder

1/2 tsp. cumin seed (or more to taste)

    1/2 tsp. tarragon

    1/2 tsp. garlic powder

    3 tbsp. steak sauce

    1/8 tsp. mushroom powder

Combine and pour over meatballs. Put roaster in oven and cook at 300 to 325 degrees for 1 hour or until done.

In Sweden we don't use tomatoes in a sauce with meatballs. It is not a proper Swedish dish!!

We would make a brunsås, translated as brown sauce, which is a type of cream sauce.

    The recipe for this is:

    1/8 pint cream

    1/4 pint beef stock

1/2 tablespoon soy sauce, to taste

    1 tablespoon white flour

    1 tablespoon water

    salt

    white pepper

    INGREDIENTS

    1 egg

    1/4 cup milk

    1 pound ground beef

1/4 cup dry cream of wheat cereal

    1/4 cup minced onion

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup

1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup

1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk

    1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

    DIRECTIONS

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a large bowl, whisk together the egg and the milk. Add the beef, cream of wheat and onion and mix well. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place balls on a lightly greased baking sheet.

    Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 20 minutes.

Drain meatballs on paper towels, if needed. Then place meatballs in a lightly greased 2 quart casserole dish. In a separate medium bowl, combine the soups with the evaporated milk, stirring until smooth. Pour over the meatballs.

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for another 40 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley before serving.

Yeah, I've never eaten meatballs with a sauce made with tomatoes. No you should listen to Kayla, and it is served with potatoes and cowberry jam or gherkin.

One other thing. Please make the meatballs yourself, home made is so much better than store bought, it's like an entirely different dish.
