Can they do this? Direct TV question....?
So my hubby & I decided that we wanted to switch to Direct from Dish because Direct has Sunday ticket. So he calls them Friday night, & is on the phone with them for an hour. Our final agreement with this guy over the phone was $45.99 per month for 2 years. My hubby talked this guy down so low because we were switching companies. I was standing there, and he had asked this guy over & over again that $45.99 was our deal etc etc & the guy kept saying yes yes etc. So were were all excited to get this great deal for Direct &Sunday ticket, but then they called yesterday to make sure we were ready for our install & my hubby asked them one more time about the price. And they tell us, no your price is $74.99, we have no idea what you are talking about. So my hubby talks to about 4 different managers, who tell us yes, the guy you talked with made that deal, but we can't honor it. Which is crap, because they could send us a $10.00 bill if they wanted! Anyway, is this allowed? Since we agreed, over the phone, to $45.99, can they legally tell us that their rep made a mistake & too bad? This is really ticking me off!
Thanks!
We actually did make a downpayment that day for like $20 for shipping. Believe me, my hubby has been on the phone with them so much since then, talking to supervisors etc. We are still waiting for a call back from another mgr. But really, the guy promised us this price & they should honor it!
We loved Dish, they had great customer service. The only reason we were switching is because of Sunday Ticket. It was cheaper for us to get Sunday ticket than go to a bar everyday to watch the game. They don't play Chiefs games where we are so it sucks!! We are still trying to figure out what to do....but so far, I think Direct has the shittiest customer service dept & that is a big deal for us...
Does anyone know how long Direct has the Sunday ticket contract??

Charging more than price indicated is illegal in the United States. It's your word against their word., but you have your rights, even if it was a verbal contract. This people shouldn't get away with this. They could also be accused of disloyal and deceiving practices. Check your state laws. Some states have internet pages with information about their consumer protection laws. However, insist first with them, if a representative form DirecTV doesn't gives the answers you deserve, ask for its supervisor. Stand up for your rights.

Yeah, they can do that. We got Dtv for the Sunday ticket too (go steelers) and we got the high def box and all (which is a rip-off in itself when you consider the price). Well we were enjoying all the high def nature/animal shows and they have this program called Nothing But Trailers where thay play upcoming movie trailers in high def which we enjoy. Then suddenly we stop getting like 5 channels in hd. My husband calls and is like "how can you just take away our channels? we pay good money for this hd box, and the contract we signed included all these channels??" And the person was like, "No sir, if you look at your contract, in fine print it says channels subject to change without notice." Meaning - they can take away channels basically anytime they want (what they had actually done was switched the channels to OTHER channels that were not in our package) then they tried to "sell" us on upping our package to include the channels that we were ALREADY supposed to be getting!!!
My husband also got the run around re: some sort of pricing like yours did, and had the same result, that they can't honor what the guy on the phone PROMISED. My husband was like, "So your people on the phone can just make quotes and they aren't valid??" and they were pretty much like, "yeah, sorry." We ALMOST cancelled but decided to keep it, our contract will be up this March and we didn't want to pay them some ridiculous fee.
I kind of think Dtv is an all around rip-off. Sure, we LOVE having sunday ticket, but they are so misleading. Like they say "free installation, no equipment to buy!" YEAH but you have to RENT each box for $5 (or is it 10?) bucks a month!!! We have 1 hd box which was $100 extra and we have 4 other boxes in our house! And its just me & my husband! (But during football all his friends come over and watch whichever game they want where ever)
So, yes, they can do that. I feel your pain.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!! I have to answer this question because I just went through the SAME crap with DirectTV!!! 2 months ago, I moved into a new place and called around trying to find the best phone/tv deal. I spent a good hour talking on the phone to a guy from Verizon who finally laid down the law and told me my bill TOTAl each month would be $94.97 (for phone AND Direct TV). Well, I got my bill - and let's just say - it was WAY more than that amount. Now, the lady at Verizon cannot figure out HOW he came up with that number. Thanks for reminding me, I need to call them again.
Okay, so maybe it's Verizon I'm having the problem with and not Direct TV - but still ....

Unfortunately, employees do make mistakes, so they do have a right to give you the higher rate. What they should have done, though, to keep you as a customer, is to honor the rate for the time said (2 years) to show good customer service. Obviously Direct TV doesn't care about this, but you do. Sorry this happened to you. (Are you going to stay with Dish?)
Addition: we just noticed a jump in our monthly bill with Dish, so we called to find out why.. the taxes have gone up $15.00 a month. When my husband asked them what they could do for us to keep us as a customer, Dish ended up giving us the movie channels for just a penney for a year. Now that's good customer service.

well first of all, the only way you would be able to pursue this would be in court, which would be useless because you would spend more then getting back, and they know that. Also maybe the guy was haggling when he wasn't supposed to, and that would be a big pay to lose. Either way the company is at fault, but it really would be unfair if you had to pay half of the price, compared to everyone anyways.

they dont have to honor the deal of $45.99 if it was not in writting.. and since no payment has been made. saying that you dont have to agree to the $74.99 deal either for the same reason.
Hope ive helped!

I don't think you are bound to the agreement since there was no paperwork signed. It was just a verbal agreement. I'd have that rep you first talked to fired.

would you want to do business with a company like that anyway? Before you know it your in the credit bureau. From my empirical data they can do whatever they want.
