which is easier? biology or chemistry?
well, I'm now a third year high school student [in phil.], studying chemistry in science, last year, we studied biology. i'm just confused beacuse it seems like biology gave me a harder time than chemistry, i'm just wondering, why do we have to study biology earlier than chemistry? is it harder than chemistry? or is it easier? please help me!

Most people will say that Chemistry is harder than Biology. But this depends on how your brain works. Biology requires understanding concepts which may be intuitive for some people but not others. Chemistry requires having an ordered mind, being good at math and equations. Definitely harder for most people. At a high school level, it doesn't really matter which you study first, but since biology is easier for most students, they teach that first in order to avoid developing a "science complex" early. Physics is harder than biology or chemistry and requires much more math.

Sounds like a pre-med type schedule. I found biology simple because I would rather read a biology text book than any other sort of reading. That is why I majored in chemistry. It forced me to learn the one I wasn't as good at. Biology is very involved but it is fascinating. If you like to learn about how and why you are they way you are, it isn't difficult. It would be more difficult for me to stay away from it. There are parts of physics and chemistry I found very difficult. The graduate level courses in Chemistry are easy but the High School level stuff is hard because they don't really teach you why things work. Biology is sort of the same way but except for some memorization, it isn't challenging at all. Many graduate level biology majors still don't seem to get the some of the basics so understanding beyond getting the grades requires a lot of thought.

It really depends on the person. Chemistry involves a lot of math while biology requires more memorization. Personally, I found biology to be easier and a lot more fun. But in my school in Va biology has to be taken first because most people take it in their second year and it makes the sophomore year less challenging.

Either your biology teacher was a real hardass, or a very bad teacher, or you must be one of the minority of students who prefers the more abstract, model-driven science of chemistry, to the specific fact-centered, descriptive type of biology usually taught in high school. And you must be good at math. Or else you only just started your chem class and are rating the difficulty based on the first day of classes when they look at pictures of the bunsen burner and how to tell a beaker from a conical flask!
Also, in the US we do it this way. Other countries teach physicas, chemistry, biology at different stages, or all at the same time.

Hey I'm going to be a senior this year in California and I took Bio soph year and Chem junior year. For me, I deffffff thought Chem was many times harder than Bio. I felt bio is more memorization of facts and details where as chem is MUCH more hands on. Chemistry involves quite a bit of math too, which although is just algebra, it can still get wicked confusing. I suggest you grab some SAT Chemistry books in a book store next time your there to get a better idea of the types of things you'll be learning. Also, you can ask the people in grades ahead of you for the name of your text book so you can skim through it before school starts to get a jump start and a better grip of the material before class starts, if you feel you will have a problem in the class.
In all, for me, bio was mainly memorization, and chemistry was cram and crash. Haha, good luck next year!

Biology is hard in a different way. Chemistry has more symbols and equations to work out. There is more math in Chemistry. You do a lot of problems in Chemistry. If you like math maybe you will think it is easier.

It all depends on you. If are good in math go for chemistry. But if you are good in memorizing definitely go for Biology. I hate both and took alternatives for both.

I would say biology. Chemistry you have to balance all these tricky equations which is tough for people who are not good in math.

i think chemistry is easier cause im not good at science. biology is learning about the cells and more science-related. whereas chemistry is more math. im good at math.

In either case, high school courses are only introductory for college. The level of education will increase exponentially and so your concern may need to be on what you enjoy more than on which is more difficult.
