I installed a cd r/rw and now I get a black screen?

I installed a cd writer on my desktop, and after installation the computer started fine. I put in a disk, and it loaded properly. Then, the computer instantly restarted. Upon restarting the screen said boot from disk, and now all i get is a black screen. I've taken out the disk, still a black screen.

Check the jumpers, are they both in master position?

Most newer computers use cable select. CD writers usually do not. Assuming that you have both on an IDE cable you have to set the hard drive as master and the CD writer as slave using the jumpers on each. You could have each one on its own IDE cable which will avoid that problem.
