SpyBot vs. Spyware Blaster isn't a fair comparison, because the two programs do two different things.
SpyBot Search & Destroy is a scanner/remover for spyware, and it has a real-time protection feature called TeaTimer. You can set TT to run in the background and if it detects spyware-like activity it will alert you and give you chance to stop the suspicious process before it does any harm. In that respect, it's similar to an antivirus program.
Spyware Blaster is a program that has a lengthy list of websites that have been flagged as potentially harmful. Spyware Blaster adds those websites to your web browser's "untrustworthy" list, so that if you happen to visit a listed website, your browser's security settings are automatically set to maximum, to reduce the chance that harm will come to your computer.
Like an antivirus program, they both need to be updated: SpyBot with new and updated spyware definitions; and Spyware Blaster with new websites to add to its "bad guys" list.
Both programs are free, pretty easy to understand, and they aren't resource pigs. There's no problem with using both of them on your computer. In fact, I recommend that you do just that. Good luck and hope that helps!

Those are two different programs. Althought Spybot does have active protection it's not that great and it's main purpose is for the removal, not prevention.
Spywareblaster is better because it gives excellent protection within Internet Explorer and Firefox, but lacks any type of other protection.
If you want something good for active protection the best thing I would recommend is PC Tools Threatfire. It has all the power of Spyware Doctor in a very small footprint for your computer:

Both of these programs fall short when it comes to detecting the latest spyware threats especially those that stick to your registry. I would recommend downloading NoAdware instead.

I prefer AdAware but I use it in conjunction with Spybot Search & Destroy and AVG AntiSpyware. I leave AVG resident (since it is the most efficient) and run weekly scans with the other two.

My money's on Spybot (which doesn't say much because it is free). Spybot takes up minimal space and no resources at all unless you are running it (which should be done weekly).
