Which laptop brand is better: Dell, Asus or Sony?

I'm thinking of getting a new laptop but am not sure which brand to buy. Asus is the least popular brand amongst my friends but that may not mean it isn't good. Dell and Sony are obviously more popular but then again, that doesn't make either really good as well.

I hope users of any of the above brands wouldn't mind sharing with me their views on the laptops. Thanks!

People buy Dell because they're cheap, but I would put them at the bottom of the list as they're expensive to upgrade later and not so reliable. Sony are over-priced. You pay for the name. Asus I don't know, but they're not really known for laptops - more for motherboards.

I would look at Toshiba before I considered any thing else.

I shopped around a little bit before buying my laptop about 5 months ago. Dell, Sony, and HP make decent laptops. My last one was a Sony and I can't say a bad word about it. It made it through a 15 month deployment in Iraq and still works 2 years after. I have heard alot of negative comments about Acer, though. I would definitely not reccomend the Acer. I ended up buy the Asus laptop and it is by far the best bang for the buck, out of all of them. I got the G71. It has a nice dual core processor, 5G Ram, a sweet GeForce 260M video card with 1G of video RAM. HD 17" screen and the speakers are even nice. I definitely got the best deal. I paid less than $1300 and I haven't found a game I can't play, yet. This thing rocks.

well i use Dell and its great. the problem though is that you can only buy new hardware for a Dell from Dell.

so if something inside the laptop breaks Dell are the only ones who sells that part,so they are able to charge as much as they want.

and the dell battery always breaks a few months after the warranty runs out.

but other than that Dell laptops run nicely and it good for beginners or advanced users.
