How to build a wood platform?

Sure, they build some vehicular bridges out of wood. A car can be supported using standard planks (2x8??). For added strength, you could sheet the platform with 1/2" oriented strand board (OSB). Joist spacing should be about 16" for the platform. Use 4x8 support posts if the platform will not be higher than 6 feet. You will need to locate concrete piers for the support beams every 6 feet. Once erected, use plenty of cross bracing on each side.

This project will be very expensive. There are many options that are much less expensive, such as building a platform using engineer fill and a concrete pad.

Rather then building it yourself, you may want to consider going to a used furniture store. Beds and bed frames are sold quite often and may even be cheaper then the price of the material. If not, at least you would have an idea of size and proper construction. A platform bed is usually associated with a water bed so that might be the best place to start.
