Honeymoon help! Maui or Kauai?
My fiance and I will be going to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We are having an extremely difficult time deciding between Maui or Kauai. We don't have the money to visit multiple islands so we must choose between the two. We like the idea of Kauai being secluded and extremely green but we also don't want to run out of things to do. We would really appreciate help from people who have actually been to the islands. Thanks!!

There are a ton of things to do on either island. My wife and I went to Hawaii for 2 weeks on our honeymoon 3 years ago. Kauai was our favorite by far. We bought a Kauai Revealed book and it was well worth it. Definitely the best guide book i have ever read.
some of the great sights we saw:
Queen's bath
Poipu Beach
Horse back riding at Poipu.
Napali Coast
Waimea Canyon
Snorkeling at any and every beach
Princeville
best restaurants we went to were in Kauai as well
Beach House (Highly recommend)
Roy's
Puka Dog (Great hot dogs)
Tropical Taco (Great Mexican)
Tidepools (at the Hyatt)
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt. I would not stay anywhere else...especially on a honeymoon...The place is amazing.

I would suggest Kauai. Very romantic and green. It is a beautiful island and is not as touristy as the other islands which is why it is so appealing The beaches are gorgeous and there are many activities such as horseback riding, helicopter rides and boat tours plus many more. I just got back from a week in Kauai and I didn't run out of things to do. I would suggest the North Shore as that is more couple oriented while the South Shore is more family oriented. Either way Kauai is a beautiful island. Have a great honeymoon wherever you go!

I would go to Maui. My husband and I have been to both islands and like Maui much better. Maui is a larger island with more to do. The land scape of Maui is very much the same as Kauai. We also found the people on Kauai to be very unfriendly towards tourist. If you decide on Kauai, plan to stay at a resort you won't need to leave.
Maui has plenty of natural areas for hiking as well as thing like golf and shopping. The town of Lahaina is the biggest tourist area with lots of shops.
Maui also has better beaches than Kauai. One, Little Beach which is attached to Big beach, is a nude beach. Your fiance might find that adventure very interesting.
Have fun!

We have been to both, and prefer Maui. Kauai is very pretty, but there is not too much to do. It is also rainier. There are many great beaches in Maui, and you can get some good deals on condos there. If you rent a condo from a private owner, you can get the best deal there- much cheaper than staying in a pricey hotel. And, you have the advantage of having a kitchen. There is so much you can do in Maui. You can check out the website below for information on Maui and accomodations. Maui is very pretty, also!

Maui is really two islands in one. You've got the party, touristy drier, Lahaina side and the isolated jungle Hana side. If you want seclusion and green jungle, nothing beats Hana. If you are planning about 7 days and don't mind packing up and moving to the other side of the island to either have things to do or seclusion, I'd say Maui. However, I honeymooned in Kauai and it was perfect.

I have been to both islands and Kauai many times. I never get bored with Kauai. Even though it is a much quieter island, there are tons of things to do from helicopter rides, movie tours, boat tours, hiking, snorkeling, and plenty of wonderful restaurants too. Maui is just too busy for me with too many people in the Lahina area.

I would say choose Maui. There is so much to do there. Kauai is very pretty but you will probably run out of things to do. Congrats!!!

we took our honeymoon in maui and kauai. maui is great for snorkeling and the tour bus road to hana (sp) was ok. the beaches were maybe better in maui. in kauai you have the spouting horn i think its called. and then you drive up to the canyon for a great view. a little more layback in kauai. if i had to pick just one. i'd maybe go with maui. more entertainment, and more fun things.

My hubby and I love to go to Maui. You can do as much, or as little as you like. I've never been to Kauai, but hubby has - says its very green - and wet! Not as commercialized as Maui. But like I said, when we go, we like to relax on the beach, swim, read, and just be together ... but if you feel the need to "do stuff" there's plenty of activities!
Congratulations and aloha! ;-)

I've been to all three and go to Hawaii almost every year. You need a rental car to get around each island. Cabs would work but then you are stuck getting to anything you want to see. Hawaii is an expensive place to visit, expect everything to cost at least 25-50% more than at home. The Sheraton Princess isn't anything special but it is in a great location, however the other two hotels are everything you could want. Expect rain as that is hurricane season in that part of the world. Of course they almost never hit the islands because of their location, but you can have more rain than is normal.
