I would have to say North Haven island off the coast of Maine, USA....where my mother's family have owned property for the past 90 years. I think I am correct in saying that my generation of the family is the fourth generation to visit North Haven in the summer time. I try to spend some time there every summer...but I have been unable to get there this year. I love it for many reasons. The scenery is so beautiful....and the view of the sunset from our house there can be amazing at times. I also love it because it is so quiet....and so very different from Cambridge, England, which is where I live for the rest of the year.

if you look like it this way, every piece of land is an island. On any piece of land if you keep going in any direction you will reach water eventually.
My favorite island is Jamaica and Hispanola (Haiti and Dominican Republic)

Curacao, our guide took us to the other side of the island from the cruise ships. The water was calm, the ocean was perfectly blue and we had a blast snorkling.

My island is wonderful and infuriating, beautiful and bleak; its children - old and young - are imaginative and stubborn, funny and grim; they find creativity in squalor, and apathy in government. We are in Europe when it suits us, yet we stand alone, "this fortress built by nature for herself, against infection and the hand of war."
I yearn to be away, and then I long to return - to "her sights and sounds; dreams, happy as her day; and laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness." It's Britain, with all its splendour and imperfection...
It's home.
