using the quadratic formula how do i go about solving this one: x2 – 3x = 7x – 2?

First, get the equation in the proper quadratic equation form:
ax^2 + bx + c = 0
x^2 - 3x = 7x -2
x^2 -3x -7x + 2 = 0
x^2 -10x + 2 = 0
Then, use the quadratic formula:
x = [-b +/- √(b^2 -4ac)]/2a
Plug in the values for a, b, and c to solve for x:
a = 1
b = -10
c = 2
x = [10 +/- √((-10)^2 -4(1)(2)]/2(1)
x = [10 +/- √(100 - 8)] / 2
x = [10 +/- √92] / 2
x = [10 +/- 2√23] / 2
x = 5 +/- √23

if thats x squared then i can help you.
first you have to get all the variables on one side of the equation. you can pick either side. i would choose the left side so that x^2 can be positive.
so you have x^2 - 3x = 7x - 2
so subtract 7x from the right and left side. you now have x^2 - 3x - 7x = -2
now add 2 to both the left and right side. you now have x^2 - 3x - 7x +2 = 0.
now combine like terms (-3x and -7x = -10x) and you have x^2 - 10x +2 =0
now you have to factor this expression. however since it is not factorable you will have to use the quadratic formula
here is the formula: http://media.nasaexplores.com/lessons/01-003/image...
a,b and c are terms in the eqn x^2 - 10x +2 =0. a is the coefficient (the # in front of at the first term) since it is just x^2, this number is 1. b is the # in front of the second term, which is -10. c is 2.
now plug those #s into the quad. form. so a=1, b=-10, c=2
you get x= -(-10)+/- sqrt( (-10)^2) - 4(1)(2)
-------------------------------------------
2(1)
that becomes x= 10+/- sqrt (100 - 8)
---------------------------
2
you can divide the top and bottom by 2 to get:
x= 5+/- sqrt (100-8)
= 5 +/- sqrt (92)
= 5+/- 9.59
this means 5 + 9.59 and 5 - 9.59
x= 14.59 and -4.59

x² - 3x = 7x - 2
x² - 10x + 2 = 0
For the quadratic equation ax² +bx + c = 0
the formula : the values of x are [-b (+ or - ) + â(b² - 4ac )]/2a
for this question
a =1
b= -10
c = 2
x = [-(-10) + â(10² - 4(1)( 2))] /2 and x = [-(-10) - â( 10² - 4(1)(2))]/2
x = [10 + â 92]/2 and x = [10 - â92]/2
x = 19.6/2 and x = 0.4/2
x = 9.8 and x = 0.2

see 1st chng da equation 2 a quadratic one 4 u wont be able 2 solve it wid a quadratic form:
dat 'd be
if x2 means x raised to da power 2 then....
it goes
x2-3x-7x+2=0
x2-10x+2=0
now here u get da quadratic equation
do u noe da formula if no dan temme i'll tell it 2 ya!!!
fyn

Assuming you mean x^2
Its actually quite easy
x^2 -3x -7x +2 = 0
x^2 -10x +2 = 0
Therefore x = (10 +/- (100 - 4*2*1)^1/2)/2
i.e x = 5 + (23)^1/2 or x = 5-(23)^1/2

im assuming x2 is x squared (x^2)
x^2 - 3x = 7x - 2
x^2 - 10x = -2
x^2 - 10x + 2 = 0
therefore a=1 b=-10 c=2
