I personally didn't do that...I actually didn't even think about it. I had a lot of stress right before the wedding with my father...long story.
But, my friend is getting married next week. This is what she is doing:
Something New: Dress
Something Old: Necklace
Something Borrowed: I'm letting her borrow my headpiece from my wedding
Something Blue: The garter

Well Im not married yet.. but I'm looking forward to the future.. but what my sister had done for it was:
something old: a lace hanker chief that my great grandmother and made
something new: a silver cross necklace my ma and i got for her
something borrowed: my earings
something blue: she had a pair of socks that had monkeys on them and were blue trim (lol long story to that but made it all great laughs)
and a lucky penny in her left shoe.. along with the hands of the clock facing up from 10 and 2.

Use something from your mom - shawl, piece of jewellery for your something old (if she's divorced or unhappy in her marriage then use a close female friend).
Something borrowed - similar to the something old, but can be from anyone.
Something blue - why not be traditional and have blue hair ribbons as a sign of fidelity?

Well mine is a little unique since I got married in Alaska during the very snowy cold winter month of January, but here goes:
Something Old: my jeans
Something new: necklace that my inlaws gave me
Something borrowed: bracelet
Something blue: my socks lol
I didn't do a traditional thing because it was way too cold. I wore a sweater, jeans, snow boots. :P lol I'm from Texas so it felt doubly cold to me.

old: Piece of my moms old wedding dress incorporated into the lace handle of my bouquet
new: a 2008 shiny penny (also good for a lucky charm!)
borrowed: Silver necklace from my best friend
blue: blue pedicure (it was a summer beach wedding. I almost went with a small blue toering as well. )

Something old- My earrings
Something blue- The whole rest of my bridal party.
Something borrowed- Underwear. I know it sounds funny but when I was trying on my dress at home I was wearing a pair of black and white striped underwear and my mom noticed the stripes showed through so she lent me a pair of tan underwear she had for me to wear.
