How can I find information about someone online?
I am looking for information about my grandfather, who passed away in 1972, I believe. My family either doesn't have much information, or is unwilling to give it to me. Either way, I have a name, and general area where he lived in the late 60's. I have the name of one of his daughters as well. He was also in the service. Can I find information through the service? I would just like to find more information. Can anyone help?
His name is Leonard Henry. He was in the service. Lived in Southern Maine (Buxton area) and had a daughter named Jessica Benoit.

You can list his name on an edit and we can help you with his research. You can email me and I’ll try to help you if you’d rather not list his name. You can visit one of the sites below – which are free or you can sign up for an ancestry.com account – which I favor and see if you can locate him as well.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp FamilySearch.org is a non-profit service sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You can also download free software that will help you keep your family tree organized.
http://usgenweb.org/ This site has been created by a group of volunteers that are committed to keep genealogy free and have provided a website for genealogical research in every county and state in the United States.
http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ RootsWeb is also a great site. It’s funded by Ancestry.com. It provides links to ton’s of additional sites as well.
http://www.ellisisland.org/genealogy/index.asp . Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. Genealogy Learning Center. This site has also has some great getting started tips and free downloadable charts and forms.
http://www.cyndislist.com/ Cindy’s List has just about everything from A to Z. I would highly recommend visiting this site.
http://www.myheritage.com/ Is free, private and secure. You can create a web site, build and save a family tree, share photos and videos and much more.
http://www.geni.com/home. You can build your family tree and invite others to join via email and expand your tree. You can add photo’s and videos.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gs&. You can search for cemetery records. Pictures of actual headstones with names and burial dates are available for numerous cemeteries. Additional information is often provided.
https://www.virtualgumshoe.com/resources/index.asp... Many public records for various counties are available. I’ve been able to obtain copies of actual documents (without visiting the courthouse or paying a fee) for my tree. Even my marriage record is listed on my county site!
Hope this has been of help to you. Good luck!
Edit -
I checked ancestry.com for "Leonard Henry" - and found only one close call with the additional info you provided - a Leonard Henry born in Main on 19 Mar 1930, passed away on 20 Nov 1973 in Sacramento. The additional information I seemed to find for Leonard Henry did not really match what you listed. If you have any idea as to when he was born it would help. You may email me if you wish.

tells about getting service records. You have to be next of kin. I don't know how closely they check to see if your parents are dead, if you claim they are so that you are his NoK, nor what th epenalties are if they catch you fibbing.
His obituary might give you some data.
http://www.tedpack.org/obit.html
will help you there, maybe.
He isn't on

He may have died outside of Maine, or the year you have may be wrong, or something else prevented it.
http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi
has five people if you use a wild card in the advanced search:
Leon* Henry
("*" means Leon, Leonard, Leonardo, Leonerd, etc.; first 4 characters are "Leon".)
Click on "Advanced" and set the year to 1972. You could try 1971, 1973 and 1982 as well. There are 5 for 1972. None have anything to do with Maine.

I have not seen any social worker break any confidentiality issues on here. There is a social worker on here who just gives professional opinions on things. I hear she was given some time off for school to better her job and because she has worked so hard and deserves some time off. Good for her. I bet she has done alot of good for the children in her area to deserve such a reward.
