Look for the specification and buy the appropriate one. If you compare the XPS with Studio, you will find almost same configuration (if you customise) and hence both are good for gaming. So it all depends up on what you select. I think Inspiron is a low end one.

Inspiron is the entry level system

Studio is for doing a little more than just using ms office and email, it is watching movies and stuff

    XPS is for gaming

Now that being said, please be advised the all is just marketing these systems that DELL sees fit. XPS is marketed as a gaming machine but they all ( or at least most ) seem to be shared RAM, which is the worst any computer can have if you plan to use for CPU intensive applications like gaming, software development, 3D modelling, video editing etc.

So, what I am trying to say is that even though DELL has their series names and they say that this system is ideal for blah blah blah but what you need to see is what kind of RAM is has (shared or dedicated, RAM speed doesn't matter because DELL sells DDR2 RAM on like 95% of their systems), the CPU type, go to cpubenchmark.net (or maybe it is .com, check both one of them has benchmark ranking of a lot of CPUs) and see where you CPU stands.

From what I can tell, Dell Latitude is the best value for money if you are wanting to spend around 1800 for a laptop. If you want to buy a desktop, you can get Dell Optiplex 755 customize is it and you should be good.

One more thing that you might want to consider if you are planning to buy a desktop is that you could just get it built from ncix.com, they charge 50 bucks for assembly and testing, just pick all the parts, go through their "Hot Deals" section , they always have some kind of deal going on.

XPS are originally gaming computers, though now they have some that are just general computers but they are really fast and programs run smooth. The dell website is pricey like it always is, if price is no big deal or if you could find it cheaper then definitely go with an xps.

Inspiron is a home office light entertainment pc

XPS is hardcore (to dell) gaming pc.

Studio would seem to me to be a video editing pc...
