Hi There, I was actually the victim of identity theft several years ago and I am still dealing with the problems it has caused me. I don't know everything that people can do but I can tell you what happened in my case. The person pretending to be me created a fake checking account and proceeded to write bad checks all over town, opened several credit card accounts and even rented an apartment at my expense. I'm not really sure of ways to stop it but, just be very careful, don't give out identifying information on the internet or to anyone that doesn't need to have it for work, school, etc. Don't throw mail away, instead shred or burn it after you have done what you needed. Same with credit card, ATM receipts. Good luck with your report.
