Depends, Delmon Young has all the tools necessary to become a better OF then Skip. Joe Mauer is reliable young catcher. You give up your young star players for veterans.

This trade should not be done.

Wow, as a Cardinals fan, I would have to say that this would be a tough decision. This is how I break it down:

Schumaker: .309 average, 8 homeruns, 43 RBI's (batting leadoff) and only 5 career errors.

Young: .284, 8 homeruns, 56 RBI's and 16 career errors, but he is 5 years younger and much more promised.

    Molina: .315 average, 5 HR's, 51 RBI's, but career wise is .263 ave., 27 homers, and 204 RBI's. 31 career errors, with 302 career assists as a catcher.

    Mauer: .321, 8 homers, 62 RBI's, but career is .315, 43 HR's, and 278 RBI's. 14 careers errors, and 171 career assists. Only months younger than Yadier.

Wellemeyer: 11-4, 3.79 ERA, 100 K's and is soon to be 30 years old.

Verdict: It would be amazing to have two former number 1 picks in the same trade being added to your squad. Young hasn't yet come into his potential yet in my opinion, while Mauer is the only catcher I would probably rather have than Yadier, mainly due to defense. Schumaker has been great and has done exactly what we needed from him everyday. But I would rather have Young only because he is 5 years younger and I believe will be better than Skip by the time he is Schumakers age. Obviously Molina throws out runners more effeciently, but Mauer is a very solid defensive catcher and is a much better hitter, although Yadier has finally come into form offensively this year. BUT, when you throw in Wellemeyer, I think that makes it a tiny bit off. Todd has some good stuff and definitely has potential. Now, if it were the two OF's and two C's straight up, I would absolutely take it. Or, if you threw in a guy like Guerrier or even Bonser in that deal, I would sign off on it. So, overall, it is a heck of a trade and would be VERY difficult to pass on, but with these things in mind, I would decline and send a counter adding in probably Guerrier in hopes to make an agreement. Great trade though in my opinion.

I wouldn't take this trade. Im in a fantasy team and i would kill for a catcher right now, there isn't many of them out there so that right there would turn me off from the trade. Secondly Wellemeyer has been falling apart ever since the All-Star break....he doesnt even have that good of a track record. Schumaker is the only one who would be a ok pick up but no this is a bad trade all around.

  • No.

Is Skip Schumaker even playing anymore? Yadier Molina isn't a good player for a fantasy team, and Todd Wellemeyer is Todd Wellemeyer.

If your NOT talking about fantasy teams, I wouldn't take it anyway.

Nope. Joe Mauer is a good catcher in a very thin catcher list in fantasy

Schumaker, Molina and Wellemeyer are free agents in most leagues.

No Mainly because it very rare to have a good offensive catcher on your team and Joe Mauer is one of those rare catchers

no, mauer is too good to give up 4 some subpar players like scumaker
