    - devastation along much of the north-central Gulf Coast

    - most severe loss of life and property damage occurred in New Orleans

    - 30-foot (10 m) storm surges destroyed most structures on the Mississippi coastline

    - at least 1,836 people were confirmed dead

    - New Orleans - flooding about 80% of the city – damages have been estimated at $81.2 billion

I was in New Orleans this past May and people were still fixing up their homes from the floods. One man was living in a trailer that was parked in his driveway and had just received the money from the government so he could begin repairing his home. Many places still had the blue tarps on their roof.

I traveled to Baton Rouge the spring after Katrina hit - airport in New Orleans was closed up.

Baton Rouge, the capital of the State and about an hour from New Orleans had their population double when Katrina hit. The housing, roads, hospitals, schools etc ( the entire infrastructure) could not handle all the people. The rich, from New Orleans, were going to people's homes and offering to buy their home right then and there for cash.

Along the Mississippi coast, it looked like a war zone.

the waves demolished everything up to about 3/4 of a mile inland. It was all just twisted piles of rubble lying around. Big hotels, resorts, McDonald's, Walmart - flattened. This past May when I went back very little rebuilding had occurred. The rubble was gone but the land lay empty.

Go to google and type in Katrina and see what you come up with. There are many, many sites. Go to google images and look at the photos - It is unbelievable.

You will find that Katina not only did damage to homes etc but the economy suffered because of it. People lost jobs in all areas. Businesses were underwater or washed away, Oil rigs in the Gulf were shut down and abandoned, pipe lines burst, farmers lost all their cattle and crops, farm land was ruined. There are still areas in New Orleans that have had nothing done to them since the hurricane. No clean-up - nothing.

    As I mentioned, google Katrina.
