My CD-RW Drive is Driving Me Crazy!!!!!!?
I asked this question before, but my problem is still unsolved. My CD-RW drive opens itself. At random. Sometimes when I first turn the computer on. Sometimes when I'm on the internet. And sometimes not at all. I have run every spyware and antivirus check I can find. And the computer is "clean".
Is it possible it is just wearing out; as I've used it frequently over the past few years? Is there a way I can disable it when not using it to prevent this annoying problem? ANY help is greatly appreciated!!
EDIT : I ran CHKDSK and everything is fine. My System Information says the CD-RW drive is functioning properly. Very confusing....

This is rather hardware related than software.
But you can try the following:
Go to: Start>Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager
Now search for your CD drive, right click, disable.
If it still continues doing this thing, you will have to buy a new one.

1 Run CHKDSK, it restores missing files.
and
2 Place the recovery CD into the tray, close the menu window when it shows, enter "sfc /scannow" into the run commands, it will scan the cd replacing any missing or corrupt system files back onto your computer, keep clicking 'Retry' if your prompt untill the scan is complete.

Sounds like the eject switch is going bad? Is there crud in the hole that might be preventing the button from returning fully?
Grasping at straws. Just doesnt sound like a software issue to me......

try this once, go to my computer, then right click on your dvd /cd drive ,then click on properties, then click on hardware, then in the list that comes up ,click on dvd/cd drives. and then at the bottom click on trouble shooter. that will test your drive for problems you might be having.
