Need advice from a good techie?
When my computer updated last week, I kept getting a failure on Powerpoint viewer 2003, then discovered, I had powerpoint viewer 1997, downloaded. So installed the 2003, but it still will not update. Every time I shut down, it tries to update, but fails. What could be my problem?
Also, how do I remove all of those failure notices out of my update history. I removed the 1997 version, then could not find a reputable site to download it again, so did a restore on my computer to put it back on. I installed the powerpoint viewer 2007, but it wouldn't read the presentations that I already have in my computer. I got a notice to install Open Office, but didn't install that. Should I have done that? Thanks.
OK, guys, thanks, I can do that, but how do I get those disgusting failure notices off of my update history and be able to shut my computer down, without having that pop-up saying "click here to update". I have to shut down, by clicking on that small line underneath the "shut down". Thanks for the help.

I recommend you install OpenOffice
You can download it at OpenOffice.org (go figure).
It is basically a full version of microsoft office, except its made by a different company. It will do everything office does, including reading and creating powerpoint presentations. The files are fully compatible with microsoft office, so there's no worries there. The best thing is that its 100% free. (and yes, its legal, visit the website for more infomation about how and why its free).
