Mac OS X re-install?

Ok so my friend got a new laptop and he gave me his but he hadent used it for a while and totally forgot the password. So i called apple and they sent me the installation cd's to my iBook g4/1758 but i tried loading them and nothing i did the hold c key and still nothing and i cant even get the command prompt to open mainly because this is the first time on an apple i have a lot of experience on window os desktops but never had a laptop or an apple. When i pop in the cd from start up they just keep ejecting

    The c key really should work. Try pressing it right as or before the Mac startup chime. Then hold it until you get the installation screen. It sometimes takes practice.

    my dvd OS X installs without holding any keys.

    What am I missing? 

    Apple does not usually show a command prompt -- that is windows/dos gig.
