Does anyone know about bathroom towel etiquette?

My boyfriend puts his towel spread out on the radiator and refuses to put it anywhere else. I hang mine on the back of the door, out of the way so when we have guests over they're less inclined to dry their hands on it and go to the radiator instead.

Is there any etiquette on where to put a common hand towel in the bathroom? I can't stand the thought of a guest having to dry their hands on the towel my boyfriend has used to dry his feet on. Yuk.

Update:

naff off Andre - not all the questions on here have to be matter of life or death. No, I'm not 'worried' per se. Yes, I do have bigger problems. Why waste your time answering?

Update 2:

waxinmoon - that's a bit personal isn't it? The towels I use dry quite sufficiently thank you. I'd rather that than spread it all out where other people are gonna wipe their hands on it.

It's a good idea to have one or two clean guest/hand towels - reserved for guests if possible - in an obvious place near the sink, either neatly folded or hanging on a small stand.

If a towel is on the back of the door or on the radiator, it likely means it's been used and having towels near the sink will ensure they don't go grabbing for your BF's feet towel. lol :)

So many people do the wrong thing in regards to towels. I put a guest towel/hand towel on the edge of the sink for guest to use. I always have the guest use the ones hanging across the bathroom on the wall or bath towels. I cannot understand it, the towel is on the sink for two reasons, guest to use, convenience- it is right there and no dripping water around the bathroom.

I have asked friends why they think the ones on the wall are the ones to use over the guest towel at the sink and they say they thought at the sink was a decoration. I just sigh! Also, I do not think anyone in their family growing up told them or used hand towels. If you loo around at friends homes I bet more do not use them or have them out then do.

I usually have a small towel hangar near the sink with a hand towel on it for use for drying hands. Bath towels are hung on appropriate towel hangars/rods or over the shower curtain rod to try.

Someone who would dry their hands on a bath towel that has obviously been used apparently doesn't care that they are wiping their hands on the same towel someone else used to dry their feet and their hiney...since that person was freshly showered when the body drying occurred, at least the parts they were drying were clean (but still....)

If you know company is coming over, move or remove the used bath towels, and put out a hand towel near the sink if you don't typically keep one there anyway.

Don't like bath towels spread on radiators! It's OK just to get it dry, but as soon as it's dry it should be hung up out of the way. I always keep our hand towel on a hook very close to the washbasin, so it's obvious to all that it's there to dry hands. If guests are staying over, I place clean bath towels/hand towel in their room.

I have a towel rack next to the sink. I have 3 hanging there. Plus when I have company with a lot of children, I go and buy the paper towels for the bathroom. That way, I don't have nasty towels laying everywhere when they are gone. And also, they are more sanitary. Hope this helps. Best Wishes.

I don't know if there is any etiquette as such, but maybe hanging a towel on a towel ring by the sink would be the best idea so guests use that instead of others you may not want them to use.

    A towel rail.

Guests are not supposed to wipe their hands on large bath towels and I'd be surprised if they actually did that in case it was used.

Just put a small one on top of the big one or next to it for the time they are there, and they will use that automatically.

Usually, most people like to hang their towels on a towel rack, next to the sink or behind the door on a hook. When you have guests, you usually put out a fresh, clean hand towel and put the used ones in the hamper or wash.

Good question! I have the same problem.....I found my hand towel on the floor of the bathroom the other day, someone had used to to step on after the shower....thats gross I think!

I think the answer is to have a small hand towel out for guests but as I said ^^ that can be misused also Sigh

  • Me bath towel goes over the shower rod. Hand towel on the hanger by the sink.

Any guest who wishes to dry their hands on the towel that has just dried of parts of me other than my hands and face is quite welcome to become that personally acquainted from afar.

Me feet are the least of it if you consider the other possibilities.

For that matter I just may start hanging a pair of nickers there as well.

    :))
