My friend is a deejay...Is he better than most of these young deejays?
His name is Hassam Dee'jam (not his real name). He's about 24 or 25. His quote on his myspace page is "It's all bread and butter, baby"
He usually plays funk, soul, hip hop, jazz...he expands his playlist.
He plays older music mostly....songs that a lot of people never heard before...
Here is a sample of his playlist....
1. The Blackbyrds- Rock Creek Park
2. Stevie Wonder- Boogie On Reggae Woman
3. The Isley Brothers- It's your thing
4. Parliament- Mothership Connection
5. The JBs- JB's Monaril
6. Bob Marley- Could you be loved
7. Roy Ayers- Green and Gold
8. Jorge Ben- Take it easy my brother charles
9. Donny Hathaway- The Ghetto
10. War- Galaxy
He idolizes a deejay here in our town. The deejay is white that plays funk & soul and he also works at a local record store.
He has a good speaking voice and he doesnt try to talk during a middle of a jam or hype up a crowd. He doesn't like today's rap (Young Jeezy, 50 cent)...He likes some of it like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Gangstarr..but nothing too mainstream
My question is....Would u listen to my friend's radio show (if he had one) or go to a party with him deejaying OR continue to listen to all these other young hip hop djs at these crunk parties and on these rap stations?
Be honest.

I've been a DJ for 20 years and anyone that plays P.Funk, Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder would get my support. Most DJ's, and I was guilty of this early on, want to play the 'hot new sound' even though there are thousands of great old songs. I started playing more retro stuff after a couple of years and don't regret a thing because now I listen to some of the stuff playing in club back in the late eighties and some bring back good memories but the other 98% truly sucked. Plenty of people still by Led Zeppelin, Beatles, and Lee "Scratch" Perry. I bet nobody care how the Jonas' Brothers are in 2-3 years.
