Detroit Buccaneers sign another Linebacker...opinions?
The Lions (I mean Bucs) just signed Nece who is yet another castoff from the Bucs roster. Are they ever going to "get it", they now have at least 4 former Bucs that will likely be starters and every one of them was shipped out of TB because they werent good enough to remain there. We all know Millen and Ford are pathetic excuses for team executives but I at least held out hope that Marinelli could somehow convert their ineptness but obviously he just wants to reincarnate the TB defense (I hear Sapp will be available after Dancing with the Stars). What are your opinions and will we ever see a winner in Detroit (I'm not getting any younger and would like to think at some point they could actually put a contender on the field).

The Lions management just doesn't have a clue. They remind me of a dog just chasing their own tail. They don't stick with their own game plan. What I mean is they thought so high of Mike Martz last off season they hired him as the O. Coordinator and paid him quite well, then after the season ends, they fire him. Now I'm not a huge Mike Martz fan, but if you believed in him so much that you pay him that big salary to be O Cord./ Asst. Head Coach, then give him a chance. Now once again the offense is back at square one trying to find an identity. Their defense is like a revolving door. They let Shaun Rogers get away which was dumb and they let Boss Baily go, and like you say they sign Bucs castoffs. I think Lions fans should boycott games til Ford fires Millen and hire at least a respectable GM. I could run that team better blindfolded then that idiot will ever be able to.

I have no problem with their defense. The Cover 2 is basically a "bend, but don't break" style. And it compliments a great offense, which DET has.
The scheme gives up some easy yards, but is key on stopping 3rd down conversions. You don't really need great athletes to play it, just players that know how to be in the right spot at the right time.
Cover 2 has been followed by all the old Tampa coaches (Dungy in IND, Marinelli in DET, Lovie in DET, Herm Edwards in KC, Tomlin is starting to use it a bit in PIT, etc etc).
Detroit will finish 9-7 this year. Probably not good enough for a playoff spot, unless Jackson melts down in MIN. That's my 2 cents.
