I'm thinking about buying a hp laptop and it comes with a tv tuner.
How do tv tuners work? I have direct tv at home and cable at school.
Do I need cable or satellite or does it just work alone?

I don't know _too_ much about them, but I wanted one a while ago too and did some research.
It would probably work better with cable because you would be able to change channels right from your laptop. But with satellite, I believe you would have to go from the box to the laptop and the screen would just act as a TV screen - you wouldn't be able to control it without a remote.
As for working alone, nope... You need a cable/satellite plugin.
