Your bff is right. What I usually do to honor these women going into labor, is I go to the hospitals that have the biggest number of women giving birth that day and I throw parties in their rooms as they are going into labor. They seem to like it because they start yelling at me but that's a good sign :)

Hurray for all the women going into labor today!!!

TODAY...it is regarded as a Day of Rest and parades. It originated in 1882, to create a day off for the working citizens. Congress made it a federal holiday in 1894 and all 50 states have made labor day a state holiday.

Traditionally it is celebrated by most americans as the symbolic end of summer on the first monday in sept. in the US since the 1880's. The parade represents the stength and spirit of the trade and labor organizations and the festival is for workers and families.

The fact that Republicans in the US celebrate "Labor Day" is always a source of merriment for me....Labor Day originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union (of New York City) sought to create "a day off for the working citizens".

Your "bff" is so full of it!

Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer.

Today, Labor Day is often regarded as a day of rest and parades.

Source(s): I had thought it was a day off created by all the "laborers" back in the old days who wanted a break for "laboring". So I was looking in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Day to check.
