Is Hong Kong a country? ?

I visited Hong Kong last year & an US government form I'm filling out is asking me which country I visited within last 3 years. Should I write Hong Kong or China or both Hong Kong China?

Update:

"WHICH COUNTRY HAVE YOU VISITED IN LAST 3 YEARS?" What do I put? China or Hong kong or what?

Thanks!

Just put China; Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997, a year earlier than had originally been agreed upon.

The general fear in Hong Kong was that Communist China would overrun the British influenced culture of the city, but as it turns out, it was the other way around. The reason the PRC relaxed its communist policies, is because of Hong Kong. Hong Kong influenced mainland China, more than China influenced Hong Kong.

So what is the culture of Hong Kong all about?

Why, making big bucks, even more so than in the U.S.; Chinese cities have become unbelievably materialistic, more so than American actually.

    peace.

Just put China is good enough. If the person asks you where in China, then say Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has been returned to China after a 99 year loan to England. It is called a Special Administrative Region (SAR) and governs itself accordingly without a lot of influence from Beijing.

I would put China on the form.

Hong Kong is a MAJOR world city located in the country of CHINA...once ruled by the British (for 100 years) and returned to Chinese rule a number of years ago.

I always put Hong Kong with China in parenthesis, or vice versa on the US Customs form when entering the US from Hong Kong. It makes it very clear exactly where you've been.

Your New York studyis flawed completely as Hong Kong was British until recently and is well used to foreign nationals. Most Hong kong go to the west for education etc. Its probably the least racist in the world followed by India etc. Last year the New York study said America was the most racist!
