Respect for women in US?

I was invited into one family in the United States. I am acquainted with one woman there and I was struck by her beauty and manners. I kissed her hand, but I thought that she did not like it.

We in Russia, kiss hands, a sign of respect and admiration.

In the U.S., not so?

Update:

What is "creepy"?

Update 2:

2 Baby #1 due Valentines Day!!!

You have a very cultural husband.

Сonvey greetings to him! :)

In Russia, boys are taught from childhood to be gentlemen.

If a man invites lady in the restaurant, and then he usually pays.

basically my reply is : what the hell did you do in this country ?

and how can you make a question with such an anecdote showing

    somebody reacting so stupidly ?

The only thing I can tell you is : hand-kiss being the highest favour you can offer a woman, feel free to listen to your detecting skills, and try to guess what kind of woman you're facing - without offence, if the woman had to show such a dumbness is due to your excessive belief in universalism of human wit -

  • Kissing on the hands USED to be a custom here in the US way back when, but nowadays, sadly, men have lost their gentleman status and have just become...well- guys. that's it. Don't feel bad because you are being a gentleman- My husband does the same thing. He kisses my hand a lot to-but he always keeps eye contact with me while he does it because that's the proper way to do it (in most places). If she doesn't like it, ask her permission next time, but i think it was initially just shock because men here are not the most gentlemanly.

My husband opens doors for me as well, but in this country, respectful customs have pretty much died out- women these days are used to being treated like a sexy object and not a loved and respected partner- as sad as that is, its the truth. Women here are no longer respected by their men, or shown respect, but are instead content with being treated that way- which should never have had to happen. we need those customs of love and admiration in this country again, it would do everyone a lot of good.

U.S. people also know the sign of respect and admiration of hand kissing so I am not sure why that woman whose hand you kissed would have reacted as not liking the act. About the only reason I know is that it could be because of her religious beliefs.

Unfortunately we do not do that and some people do not realize that other countries do it is a real shame, I would be happy if someone showed that kind of respect, here some women find it creepy..

Creepy is Informal causing a feeling of fear or disgust.

Some like it, some don't. some think it is just hokey. Not a standard custom in the US.
