Is there a sleep disorder that involves a person hitting, punching, etc... in their sleep?
I am embarrassed to admit this, but in the last few months, while dreaming at night, my husband wakes me up mad at me because I have just punched, hit, kicked, or grabbed him. Basically I act out what I have dreamed. Most of the time, I am not aware that I do it. Sometimes it does wake me up.
Last night I grabbed him and shook him. He is now joking that he is afraid to go to bed with me for fear of me "beating" him up.
Any ideas?

Its quite possible that you may have a sleep disorder or may have anger issues that are coming to the surface when you sleep. What are your dreams about? Do you remember them? Who is involved in your dreams? Hmmm? Are you angry with someone?

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net/

The one thing I know of, like the first poster said, is when you fall into REM sleep. The disorder is called rapid eye movement behavior disorder - or RBD. The treatment is simple - an anti-convulsant medication called clonazepam. It normally works really well, and most doctors think it suppresses muscle activity instead of actually cures it. But you don't really remember it, so it doesn't mater.
But RBD is linked loosely to Parkinson's. And it'd be helpful if you speak to your doctor.
A good reference is on the bottom.

Yes, this is basically the same thing as sleepwalking. Your brain is supposed to shut down the part that makes you act out your emotions while you sleep, so that you don't act out your dreams. In sleepwalking, you fail to shut down your action center so you act out whatever you're dreaming. You don't have to be getting up and walking around to have this disorder!
You should check out sleep-study clinics near you. They can evaluate your sleep and help you treat it.

When you sleep you enter REM (rapid eye moment) sleep periodically. This is when you dream. Your brain normally sends a signal to paralyze your body during this time. I have heard of this signal being messed up in people before. And I thought I had it rough. My wife only talks in her sleep.

I do that, act out my dreams but never hit because my dreams aren't violent maybe you should ask a doctor and if you are really harming your husband you should sleep in different beds just until you tell your doctor you don't want your husband hurt!
