Has anyone tried stinky tofu?

I like tofu but ewwwww that just seems so gross to me. Sitting for 2 weeks in a black goo of fermented vegetables so it absorbs the bacteria?? Not even the guy from weird foods can eat it. He said it has a sour, spoiled, rotten taste to it.

There is nothing better than a good authentic Taiwanese stinky tofu. Once you get over the smell, it is wonderfully delicious! It's crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. The sauce that goes with the stinky tofu brings out flavors that just bursts in ones mouth. It's so good. You really have to psych yourself up for this. Once you get over the image of the fermented tofu and the stench, you'll learn to love the taste. You'll want to have more.

I have a friend who is a flight attendant and she tried it in Taiwan at one of the food stalls. We talked about this same topic 2 months ago. She said that the stinky tofu she had was really good. You have to get over the "smell" and the "soft texture" in your mouth. I mentioned the Bizarre Food show with the stinky tofu. She said she would never eat that particular tofu that woman made in her store.

Huge majority of Chinese do not like stinky tofu for the obvious reason. Nibbled once on a square inch of it... swallowing was a struggle as the oily stink overwhelmed... threw the tofu away. Trust me, the tastes, whatever it tasted, is just not worth the try. Wretched stuff!
