Is this smell from the breath or all over? It can be just about anything in an older dog. Is she having any other issues besides the smell? Some causes of bad odors include skin problems like hypothyroidism, cushings, infection, and others. Mouth issues including dental problems, kidney disease, sugar diabetes, digestive issues and others. Urinary issues include incontinence, infections. Anal glands can be an issue. Sounds like this dog needs to be taken to the vet for a thorough exam and some blood work. Don't go by my guesses, but ask your vet.

Sometimes sick or old dogs do smell. They don't take proper care of themselves, so they start to smell.

Infections can also create a horrible smell.

In most dogs, however, there are two main causes.

1. Environmental. The dog rolled in something, needs a bath, or played too hard.

2. Food. Low quality food can make a dog smell. I'm not just talking gas, although that can be a part of it, but a significant doggie odour.

check her teeth, she may need a teeth cleaning. Smell her upclose, she may have an infection in her ears or her bowels. Give her a bath, and maybe a clip, feed her fresh food, and mix some mint in her tea

it is her teeth. her anal glands will not smell bad if they need to be expressed. if she is expressing them herself she will not have an odor. seeing that she is 13 years old, i would schedule a dental cleaning. this will solve your problem.

She may need to have her teeth cleaned if it's her breath. Otherwise, she may need to have her anal glands expressed. Your vet can do both.

Could be anal glands? I know that stuff smells horrible.

Any chance she may have been sprayed by skunk???

Try tomato juice or baking soda and shampoo!!

It sounds funny but tomato juice works great!!!
