Obama supporters, serious question about health care (pls read entire question)?

Are you ready to pay at least 12% more on your payroll taxes for this?

While I admire a country that can take care of their own, I know specifically how it works up in Canada at least, and I hope you realize that Socialist countries pay their people MUCH more to make up for the difference in the much much higher tax percentage.

When/if universal health care ever happened, how can we force corporations in a free market society to up the ante and raise everyone's wages by a large amount to offset the difference? How can these people afford to keep our stock market up as consumers (this is all America has in terms of power: Consumerism!)

What about the many people paying 60 bucks a month for their healthcare, see it skyrocket to 200 a month under these plans?

This is a fair question, Im really hoping to hear from Obama suporters and their thoughts on this, even if you disagree :-)

Update:

Exactly Mutant! The only thing that gets passed along to American citizens is the debt; never the surplus.

What bothers me about universal health care is having to pay for the 20 million illegal immigrants Obama wants to give amnesty to, we tried that when Reagan was president and it just caused more illegals to come, how can we continue to pay out billions for these people that just keep using the system ? Eventually we will all be poor and out of resources?

Edit: Darling " I believe that health care should not be something that some people have and others don't." thats your opinion, I dont believe I should have to work and pay someone elses insurance while they sit around making babies they cant afford to raise.

You'd be right that "socialism sucks", except that the free market economy has resulted in the most expensive and inefficient health care system in the world. The cost that insurance companies add overall would be enough to pay for health care for all Americans who need it.

Of course, eliminating insurance companies from the equation is somehow considered unamerican, while it's okay to funnel money directly from your pocket into theirs, even while they try to deny you care you may need to stay alive.

If it were not for the government propping up the health insurance industry repeatedly through favorable legislation (Isn't it cool how they get to write off unlimited lobbying to buy our legislators!), it would have long ago collapsed and been replaced by something that actually works.

Foreigners look at the health care system of this country and are amazed at how little we get for our money.

Nobody who is paying $60 a month for insurance is covered. The first illness will wipe them out. The insurance will pay almost none of it.

As someone who's self-employed now and who grew up without health insurance, I believe that health care should not be something that some people have and others don't.

They estimated the cost of Obama's program at $50 billion to $65 billion a year, financed largely by eliminating tax cuts that are scheduled to expire. (President Bush wants to make those cuts permanent.)

True, Obama's plan calls on "every citizen a means for coverage and calls on government, businesses and consumers to share the costs of the program," but that means that those who CHOOSE to participate will be paying a premium for coverage. The poorest citizens will be paying less, if anything--kinda like those on Medicaid.

What does this mean to businesses? It means that by participating, they'll be ensuring the health of their workers. And dozens of studies have proven that workers with health plans are more productive and take less sick days.

Plus, Obama's plan isn't about just expanding coverage, but reducing unnecessary costs. He'll also create a National Health Insurance Exchange to monitor insurance companies in offering the coverage.

Maybe I'm idealist, but if I need to pay a bit more to help other families and children have health care, I see that as my duty.

The reality is this: We have to do something because the system in place now is broken.

I have a friend who is Canadian. She got a head injury when she was 14 that, if I remember correctly, broke the bone and caused poor vision and dizziness. She still has not had an MRI because she was on a waiting list.

    It's been about nine years.

I don't want the Canadian health care system, but at the same time. . . our plan is not working out very well for anyone but the very rich. We need to do something in between.

Also, because of the money currently tied up in the system, and because of doctors vulnerable to malpractice suits, fewer people are going into medicine today. It's a brutal job and you get sued a lot. Baby boomers should find that disturbing, because we have an aging population that's going to develop more and more health problems.

Imagine a government with Pelosi, Reid, Obama and Biden. Socialism and higher taxes comes to my imagination. Socialism does not work, it is a fact!

Regarding healthcare, the liberals' proposal to nationalize this sector is soooooooo dumb. Under this plan, the quality of the hospitals will go down, crappy doctors and nurses, there will be long lines in the patients waiting room, you will be sitting with a bunch of sick people for so many hours until your turn, and guess who will be paying for this - the American people. If you have experienced govenment jobs and agencies, then this will be no different!!!

It's interesting that hedge funds which are the primary vehicle the rich use to get richer are very big Obama supporters. The reason is that universal health care will allow employers to dump benefits and increase profits.

You can bet there will not be a commensurate increase in pay, but the rich will get that much richer.

  • I have schizophrenia and am unable to afford much needed medicine because I can't afford health insurance. I don't qualifiy for any government assistance programs. I am an Obama supporter because I feel that his health care plan will benefit me more than McCain's plan.
