Well it really depends on the brand and materials in the coat. As well as your bust and shoulders and your torso and arms.

Assuming you are an average height with average build I would start you in a 14 R or 16 R and go from there. An 18 R would probably be too big. Just so you know, the R means regular. There is also T for tall and S for short. Just for your knowledge, Ariat brand tends to run on the bigger side. Although their jackets do have quite a bit of stretch. Tailored Sportsman tend to be on the small side. Grand Prix and JPC and RJ classics are usually right on. RJ classics are a great value for your money too. Make sure when you put it on that the coat button it up. The best thing would be to have a ratcatcher underneath so you get a proper fit. You want to make sure you can bend your arms in normal riding position nd have the jacket cuff be at your wrist. And that you are comfortable in a two point in the jacket. Also the curves of the jacket should fit your curves. You can always take in a jacket, and its very difficult to let it out. If you are between sizes get the next size up and take it in.

For pants, you may want to start with a 30 R or 32 R or a Medium. Again it depends on brands. Same thing, ariats tend to run bigger and sportsmans run slightly smaller. Go with a high quality 4 way stretch pant for showing. You will be much comfortable and they will last quite a while. You want the pants to fit you and not so baggy that you can grab a handful of fabric. Also you dont want them so tight they may rip if you move too much. They should lightly hug your legs.

Well, I'm 5'3" & at my heaviest last year 165. I wore a size 16 coat meant to stretch across the back & it was fine. It depends how big your chest is too how the jacket will fit (i'm average bust size). Pants depends on brand & how sized. Some are S M L XL and some are by #. I would say you need to try some different brands on at the store but will prob find an XL or 38-40 to fit ok.

PS My hunt coat is for sale on ebay if you're interested....item # 130251192126 (I no longer show as my horse has medical issues)

I think an 18 would be good, but depending on the coat I would try 16's 18's and 20's on (some coats are terrible to fit)

I normally take anywhere between a 10-16 (depending on the make). My current only show coat is a size 10 that I can just squeeze into (thank god I don't do too much showing anymore!)

Just go to the shop and try them on!

It depends on what size clothes you wear normally, for example if you are a size 12, then look for sizes 10-14 (some fit differently).

    Good luck :-)
