I assume the shaded region is the area inside the square that the circle does not occupy.

The area of the square - the area of the circle = shaded region

    area of square = 8.5m x 8.5m = 72.25m square

    area of circle = Pi x 3m^2 = 28.274m square

    Area of shaded region = 72.25m square - 28.274m square = 43.976

Hope this makes sense and helps

Shaded region? I assume it is in between the circle and the square? If so the area is, rounded off some, 43.9756661M
