Anyone out there with a bachelor's degree in accounting?
I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting and have about 2.5 years to go. Here is a list of questions:
1) Do you like your accounting job?
2) Do you receive a good starting salary?
3) How many hours a week do you work?
4) Do you ever have fun while on the job?
5) Is a good gpa required to get a good job? What was yours?

I have my bachelor's but I also graduated prior to the 150 credit rule and am a CPA who works in public accounting. I've got 10+ years experience but switched firms in the last year. I work 90% of (their) full time so I'm salaried based on working 1980 hours a year (normal 40 hr/s a week is 2080 hrs/yr, but full time where I work is considered 2200 hrs/ yr)
1) Yes I do like my job.
2). I felt my starting salary was very reasonable given the size of the firm I started with, and with the firm I am with now, for our geographic region
3) During tax season I work 6 days a week, 55-60 hours in that week. However in the off season I only work about 25-30. If I use any paid time off it is less than that.
4) Absolutely! That's one reason I really like where I work now. We have monthly fun events. Recently we got to throw at partners in a dunk tank! This month we're having a Wii boxing tournament. We've also played bingo, decorated cookies, etc. The staff also pulled pranks on all the partners on April 15th this year. We also can be silly and joke around on a day to day basis. The firm I work for also pays me for up to 40 hours of volunteer time.
5). I don't even remember my collage GPA to tell the truth. It wasn't horrible but certainly wasn't anything to brag about either. I don't even think my first employer asked what it was.
I landed an internship my senior year because the man who became my boss knew my tax professor, and had him mention the opportunity in class (and I went to a Big 10 school). I got my job after graduation by being hooked up with a mentor through a campus program. Take advantage of connections like that if you can. The firm I work for likes to hire interns as full time employees if we can, as they're already partially trained on our software, etc. You'll find that accounting firms can be quite flexible too. My office has us all set up with the ability to work from home and to set our own schedules for the most part.

I have known many people that have become accountants, and they all have told me that getting past statistics was the most difficult part. With the background you have described you should do well. Most business majors take accounting principals in their 1st year. I took it my first quarter. My major was marketing.
