Why can't my computer detect the onboard sound card?

I have an HP Pavilion a414x running Windows XP ServicePack 2 (just installed sp2), with a G31T-M motherboard. I recently installed the motherboard CD with drivers on it, and I still don't have sound. I've tried everything. I have checked in Device Manager to see if my card was detected, it was. I have checked in Services to make sure the Windows Audio service was Started/Automatic. It was.

I went to my motherboard's website and got the newest drivers possible. Now, in DXDIAG it says I have no sound card at all. I don't understand.

Help!!

Probably its function is turned off through the motherboard BIOS. Get a guidance how to get into the BIOS during start up and make sure it's turned on.

mine did the same ingredient...and that i had to purchase a sparkling sound card. I also had a virulent disease yet had gotten it out and each and every thing else replaced into operating proper except the sound. when I put in a sparkling sound card, it replaced into proper back.
